X-Women blank Aigles Bleues 2-0

MONCTON – The CIS ranked No. 8 StFX X-Women blanked the No. 7 ranked Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues 2-0 on Sunday, at the J.-Louis-Lévesque Arena.

After a scoreless first period that saw the X-Women outshoot the Aigles 10-4, Emily Power scored the first X-Women goal on the power play at 15:31 of the second period. Nicole Corcoran assisted on the play.

The X-Women held a 9-5 shot advantage in the second period but it was Moncton who had more chances in the third at 14-6. StFX netminder Pascale Daigle had several key saves for the X-Women to keep their lead.

Kara Power sealed the win for the X-Women as she potted an empty net goal with only seven seconds left on the clock after Moncton pulled their goaltender Gabrielle Forget in favor of an extra attacker.

Forget posted 23 saves in the Aigles Bleues net in the losing effort, while Daigle had the same number of saves for the X-Women and was named the game's first star and Subway player of the game.

Emily Power was the second star and Forget was the third.

Moncton was 0 for 4 on the power play while the X-Women were 1 for 3.

The Aigles Bleues (2-3-0) have lost their last three games and will play next on Wednesday evening, November 4th when they host the first place St. Thomas Tommies (4-1-1) at 7pm.

The X-Women (3-2-1) will host the Dalhousie Tigers (2-4-1) on Saturday evening, November 7th. Puck drop is 7:00 pm at the Charles V. Keating Centre.
