MHKY | Voyageurs End Opening Weekend with a Win

On Saturday night, the Voyageurs picked up their first victory of the young season with a 2-1 road win against the RMC Paladins.

The majority of the game featured a defensive standoff between both squads where neither team was able to score in the first two periods despite a plethora of power plays being awarded to each side.

The scoreless drought was finally broken early in the third period when Riley Brandt gave RMC a 1-0 lead at 1:04.

The Vees tied the game at 12:04 when Richard Therrien scored on the power play. The goal was assisted by Jacob Smith and Jayme Forslund.

The game remained tied as the clock wound down. The Voyageurs, eager to avoid overtime, capitalized on late power play. With just 50 seconds left in regulation time, Jacob Smith scored to give the Voyageurs the lead. RMC was unable to tie the game in the time that remained, securing the Vees first win of the season.

The Voyageurs head home after their first road trip of the season with a 1-1 record and are back in action next weekend as they host Waterloo and Laurier.
