MONTREAL -- Striker Daphnee Morency of Boulder, Col., scored in injury time, mere seconds before the final whistle, as the McGill University women's soccer team rallied to settle for a 1-1 draw against visiting Concordia in the RSEQ regular season opener before a crowd of 467 at Percival Molson Stadium, Saturday.

The result avoided what would've been the Martlets first loss to Concordia in four years and extended an undefeated streak to 6-0-1 over their cross-town rivals, dating back to the last Stingers victory, a 1-0 decision on Oct. 11, 2012.

Concordia, which has failed to qualify for post-season play since 2005, was within a whisker of pulling off the crime of the century against a veteran McGill side that has pretty much owned them for more than a decade. The Stingers struck first when Laura Lamontagne, a sophomore midfielder from Les Cedres, Que., scored in the 68th minute, capitalizing on a deflection of a McGill defender.

"We got off to a good start and things were going well for us but their 'keeper made a couple of big saves in the first half," said McGill head coach Jose-Luis Valdes. "The second half (was a different story) and when Concordia scored first, we were startled, looked nervous and kind of got off our game plan for a few minutes. But fortunately for us, we found our composure to (salvage) a tie."

Despite the low-scoring affair, there were numerous chances with McGill holding an 11-7 advantage in shots attempted. McGill goalkeeper Cassandra Fafalios made four saves, while Concordia's Olivia Desgroseillie was credited with six.

The Stingers (0-1) will host Montreal (1-0) on Sept. 9, while McGill will meet Bishop's (0-1) at Molson Stadium on Sept. 9 at 6 p.m.

MARTLET MURMURS: High-scoring striker Audrey-Ann Coughlan did not dress for the second straight contest and is awaiting an MRI scan -- scheduled for later this month -- after suffering an injury in a preseason win over St. Michael's College on Aug. 24.
