Tigers defeat 3-1 in preseason matchup

(Halifax, NS) – The Tigers began their home preseason tournament tonight against the University of New Brunswick. The Tigers went on to defeat the Reds in three consecutive sets. The Tigers won the first set rather comfortably, but the Reds battled back to give the Tigers two difficult games to finish.

The Tigers came out of the gate very hot earning the first four points of the game. Julie Moore (Halifax, NS) was the most dangerous presence on the court in the first set. She earned seven kills in the first set alone.

Libby Falkenham (Halifax, NS) and Julie Moore (Halifax, NS) contributed heavily on the defensive end early. Libby had two great digs in a span of only a few minutes.

Victoria Eadle helped the Reds battled back to a 15-9 score with three quick kills, but it was not enough as the Tigers pressed on to win 25-12.

The Reds were the ones to start off strong in the second game. Adora Rooyakkers earned the first two points off her serves.

The Tigers and the Reds had both picked up the quality of their play, and the momentum was going back and forth. The Tigers were looking as if they might pull away, but 6 points from Megan Kuciak (Ottawa, ON) helped the Reds claw back to a 16-13 deficit.

Lauren Koskowich (Calgary, AB) showed her great defense on the net, earning 2 points off blocks for the Tigers. Mieke DuMont (Kamloops, BC) and Julie Moore (Halifax, NS) put away the game for the Tigers with powerful attack after attack.

Mieke DuMont (Kamloops, BC) continued her impressive play on the net in the third game, earning three kills for the Tigers. The Tigers broke away early taking a 15-5 lead. Sophia King (Brandon, MB) had an impressive third set with a kill and a point off a block. The Tigers eventually defeated the Reds 25-16 in the third set and earned a 3-0 victory in the match.

The Reds went on to win a fourth friendly game.
