Ridgebacks earn point against Rams, fall in overtime

OSHAWA, Ont. – A goal with five seconds to play in regulation by Brennan Roy (Iroquois Falls, Ont.) gave the UOIT men's hockey team a chance for two points against the Ryerson Rams, but given the fact Roy was able to push them to overtime – "at the buzzer" – they'll take the point.

In a back-and-forth game, that ended 4-3 in favour of the No. 9 ranked Ryerson, the Ridgebacks were playing catchup all night, always tying the game each time Ryerson scored.

Unfortunately for UOIT, the Rams had the last laugh in the sudden-death overtime as the Ridgebacks take the point and turn their attention to the York Lions on Saturday night.

Saturday night's game is Type 1 diabetes night at the Campus Ice Centre. Puck drop is 7:30 p.m. between the Ridgebacks and Lions, with half of all ticket sales, along with all other monies raised through raffles, 50/50 and donations going to the Charles H Best Diabetes Centre and JDRF.
  • Three different Ridgebacks scored for UOIT, two of which had their first goals of the 2018-19 season. Josh Maguire (Cobourg, Ont.) scored his second of the year to knot the game 1-1.
• Picking up his first OUA goal, Spencer Roberts (Stouffville, Ont.) scored 3:45 into the third period to tie the game 2-2. Roy's first of the year came at the end of the third to tie the game.

• Captain Danny Elser (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) finished with assists on two UOIT goals.
• Matt Mistele scored twice to lead the Rams goal scoring. His goals game in the first and third periods at the 14:42 and 14:10 marks respectively.
• Gregory DiTomaso assisted on three of four Ryerson goals.
Brendan O'Neill (Ilderton, Ont.) made 27 saves in the start for the Ridgebacks. He is now 1-1-1 (W-L-OTL) this season.
• Taylor Dupuis had a lighter workload for much of the night, but ended with 22 saves in Ryerson's win.
