StFX shutouts Huskies 3-0 in AUS women's hockey action

Halifax, NS – The CIS No. 9 ranked StFX X-Women improved to 11-1 on the season with a 3-0 shutout over the Saint Mary's Huskies Sunday afternoon. Sojung Shin earned the victory in nets for the X-Women with 19 saves, her fourth win of the season.

With the loss the Huskies drop to 4-7-1, tied for fourth place in the AUS conference. The X-Women remain in sole possession of first place.

All three of the X-Women goals were scored in the first period.

Veteran fifth year defense Jenna Downey (Stratford, ON) opened the scoring in the game with a power play goal at 6:31 from Alex Normore (Bedford, NS).

Daley Oddy (Cranbrook, BC) notched the second StFX goal at the 12:02 mark from Kira Dube (Calgary, AB), and freshman forward Sarah Bujold (Riverview, NB) scored on the power play at 14:06. Oddy and Jenna Downey assisted on the Bujold goal as the X-Women outshot the Huskies 12-6 in the first period.

StFX was able to fight off six power play chances by the Huskies in the game. Neither team managed a goal in the second and third periods.

Shots ended 23-19 in favor of the X-Women.

StFX will next see action on Friday, November 28th as they travel to Charlottetown for a 7pm game against UPEI (3-7-1). They round out the first half with a 2pm game in Moncton (9-2-1) on November 29th.
