WHKY | Voyageurs Shut Out Lancers, 2-0

On Sunday afternoon, the Voyageurs earned their first regular season victory of the year by shutting out the visiting Windsor Lancers 2-0.

The first period was relatively uneventful, despite Windsor outshooting Laurentian 9-6.

The second period was nearly identical to that of the first, although the Vees started to bring the play to the Lancers with two powerplay attempts and outshooting the Lancers in the second frame, 13-10.

The Vees broke the game open early in the third period however, as Sam Morell scored her first goal of the season just six seconds in. Annie Sheridan assisted on Morell's goal.

The Vees doubled their lead later in the period and all but put the game out of reach for the Lancers when Madison Heeney scored her first career OUA goal at 15:43 of the third. Amelie Samson and Julia Giannitsopoulos picked up assists on the play.

Karen Collins calmly turned away any remaining hope the Lancers had at a comeback, earning her first shutout of the season making 28 saves on the afternoon.

After the weekend, the Vees are now 1-1 on the season and they look to make it two in a row next weekend as they host the Nipissing Lakers.
