Team effort gives Warriors first win of season

Box Score The Warriors put together an inspired opening quarter outscoring the Laurentian Voyageurs 13-0 and led from start to finish to earn their first win of the season, 60-58.  Waterloo improved to 1-9 on the season while Laurentian dropped to 3-6.

The Warriors were led by Kristen Osborne (Markham) who posted 13 points in the contest, five of which came in the opening quarter.  Nicole Schlick (Prince George) also had a strong game with 11 points while collecting six rebounds.  Emily Wilk (Oakville) was the third Warrior in double digits with 10 points going 4-for-9 from the field.  Jenel Ulman (Hamilton) had a strong game with five assists while Caitlin MacLeod (Mississauga) had a solid game off the bench with five points and seven boards.

Defence was the name of the game for the Warriors who created 17 turnovers while turning those into 16 points.

"We got a spirited effort on both sides of the ball but it was evident we were focused on stopping the Voyageurs and it turned out to be the difference," mentioned head coach Tyler Slipp.  "It was a great team win."

Laurentian made a charge late following a few missed free throws by Waterloo and the home side had a chance to win it with a late 3-ball and then a rebound shot that would also miss giving Waterloo the victory.

For the Voyageurs, it was a one-woman show for Adrienne Moreau who had 23 points.  The only other Laurentian player in double digits was L'Ashante Henry who had 10.

Waterloo will be back in action tomorrow night against Nipissing with the tipoff set for 6pm.
