WolfPack Reach Century Mark For Second Straight Night Against Heat

For the second straight night the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack scored over 100 points against the University of British Columbia Okanagan Heat in Canada West Women's Basketball.

After downing the Heat 106-58 on Friday (January 9), the WolfPack came up with a 103-61 victory on the Warner Rentals Court at the Tournament Capital Centre.

The win was the WolfPack's seventh straight league victory and lead the Explorer Division with nine wins and a loss. The Heat fall to three wins and seven defeats.

"It was nice to shoot the ball well two games in a row," said Thompson Rivers head coach Scott Reeves. "And it was nice to do it at home. In Canada West, you play half your games at home.  We played well this weekend.  I was really proud of the team. We now have to move onto next week."

The WolfPack improved in all facets of their shooting in this game. Their field goal percent went from 39.6 to 47.4 per cent as the game went on.  Their three point field goal percentage was 41.7 in the first and 46.7 in the second half.  At the free throw line, TRU was 50 per cent successful in the first half and 91.7 per cent successful in the second.

The WolfPack had five players hit double figures.

Emma Piggin (first year, guard, Kamloops, BC) led the way with 20 points.

Michelle Bos (first year, guard, Surrey, BC) and Kassie Colonna (third year, forward, Invermere, BC) had double-doubles.   Bos had 19 points and 14 boards.  It was the seventh time in nine outings she has had a double double.

Colonna had 15 points and 11 rebounds.

Other WolfPack players hitting double figures were Jorri Duxbury (fifth year, guard, Salmon Arm, BC) with 14 and Taiysa Worsfold (fourth year, guard, Kamloops, BC) with 10.

UBCO had two players in double figures. Jessica Jazdarehee (third year, guard, Coquitlam, BC) had 13 points with Vanessa Botteselle (first year, guard, North Vancouver, BC) adding 11.

The WolfPack will head to Prince George next weekend (January 16-17) for games against the UNBC Timberwolves. Reeves says they have to start working on preparation for that immediately and forget about this weekend's two lopsided victories. "Just like last night. We had to put that in the background because today was a new game day.  Our focus is now preparing on the bus trip and the rest of that. UNBC plays a different style—they play a lot more zone. We will have to run more of our zone offense.  It might not be the same shots as we got this weekend. We will work on our zone offense to make sure it is sharp."

The Heat will return to Kelowna to entertain Mount Royal next weekend.

Next home game for the WolfPack will be Friday, January 23rd at the TCC against Mount Royal.
