In afternoon affair Gaels topped by Mustangs 85-64

BOX SCORE LONDON, Ont. (December 2, 2011) – The Queen's Gaels (0-7) were in London taking on the Western Mustangs (2-5) in an afternoon OUA basketball affair on Friday. Western was too much for the Gaels who were unable to keep pace falling 85-64.

The Gaels kept the game close in the opening quarter as they trailed by only five. In the second quarter it was all Western who came out strong and doubled the Gaels output of 13 points with 26 of their own. It was the same result in the third frame as the Mustangs scored 24 compared to the Gaels 12. The Gaels put together a strong fourth quarter with 23 points compared to only 14 for Western. In the end it wasn't enough and the Mustangs took the game 85-64.

The Gaels were led by Matt Baker of Kingston, Ont. who put up 14 points, while Mackenzie Simpson of Ottawa and Ryan Golden of Barrie, Ont. each chipped in with 13 on the day.

The Mustangs Ryan Barbeau of Belleville, Ont. went 10 for 17 on the day with a  game high 32 points, including six three pointers, to go along with six assists and three steals.

The Gaels will return to the hard court tomorrow when they travel to Windsor to take on the Lancers. Tip off is set for 8pm.
