WHKY | Voyageurs Double Up Lions

WHKY | Voyageurs Double Up Lions

On Saturday afternoon, the Voyageurs women's hockey team won their third game in a row after beating the York Lions 4-2.

The Voyageurs hit the ice with the same momentum that carried them through last weekend and took the play to the Lions right from the start. At 6:45 of the first period, Myla McCormick opened the scoring after an assist from Sam Morell to give the Vees the 1-0 lead. McCormick's goal would be the only goal of the period. However, the Voyageurs dominated the Lions, outshooting them 9-2 in the period.

Most of Saturday's action happened in the second period, beginning with York evening the score at 7:03 of the second after Avery Reeves scored for the Lions. The tie would last only a couple minutes though, as Emma Leger restored the Voyageurs lead when she beat Lions goaltender Lauren Dubie at 9:17. Amy Locke would tie the game again for the Lions at 15:52. However, the Voyageurs would again take only minutes to respond to a Lions goal. Ellery Veerman, who is on a scoring rampage this season, scored to put the Vees up 3-2 with an assist going to Jessica Staats.

The final goal of the game would come just over two minutes into the third period, when Elissa Bertuzzi scored on the power play on an unassisted effort. The Voyageurs outshot the Lions 35-24 on Saturday en route to their third win in a row.
The Voyageurs, who are now tied for second place in the standings, head to Brock tomorrow and look to make it four in a row.
