WBB | Voyageurs Open Up 2017 with Big Win Against Badgers

The Voyageurs women's basketball team got 2017 off on the right foot as they secured their second win of the season, upending the Brock Badgers 64-56 at the Ben Avery Gym on Friday night.

The first half saw both teams trade scoring opportunities with some big defensive plays on both ends as well. Heading into the half, the Badgers held a 27-26 lead.

The second half started much of the same way, with Brock ahead 32-31 before a burst of energy set the Voyageurs off, exploding on offense and closing out the third quarter on a 13-2 run.

The Badgers would try and claw their way back into the game, finishing the fourth quarter 22-20, but a strong third quarter seemed to be the answer for the Voyageurs on this night as they came away with the 64-56 victory.

The Voyageurs enjoyed a balanced offensive attack against the Badgers as five players entered double-digits in scoring. Emily Tinnes and L'Ashante Henry led the way with 12 points each, Adriane Bruni and Kayla Deschatelets collected 11 points each and Mackenzie Robinson rounded out the scoring with 10 points on the night.

Tinnes enjoyed her first double-double of the season as she added 10 assists and five rebounds to her 12-point night.

The Voyageurs are back in action Saturday night as they welcome the OUA Central leading McMaster Marauders to the Ben Avery Gym, game time set for 6pm.
