MHKY | #6 Redmen Upend Voyageurs

MHKY | #6 Redmen Upend Voyageurs
On Friday night, the Voyageurs men's hockey team were unable to secure their third win of the season as they were upended by the #6 ranked team in the country, the McGill Redman, 8-3.

With the Voyageurs on the defensive and a man in the box in the first, the Redmen got themselves on the board as Christophe Lalonde found the back of the net on their first of four power plays in the game at 16:41 of the period. That would be the only offensive tally for either side in the frame as Voyageurs goalie, Gunner Rivers, denied the remaining onslaught of Redmen chances in a lopsided shot differential as McGill got off 18 to the Voyageurs 7 in the period.

The Redmen doubled their lead two minutes into the second period when Michael Cramarossa slid one past Rivers, giving the Redmen a 2-0 lead. They would add three more in just three minutes to go up 5-0 and initiate a much needed Voyageurs time out.

The break seemed to spark the Voyageurs offense when captain Caleb Apperson put in his first of two on the power play from Brent Pedersen and Jacob Smith to break the scoreless streak. With the Voyageurs adding some pressure and on another power play late in the frame, an unlucky bounce sent McGill's Jan Kaminsky on a short-handed break, putting the Redmen back up by five heading into the third.

The Voyageurs were outshot in the third 19-8 but equalled the amount of Redmen tallies in the frame. After a McGill goal six minutes into the period, Apperson found the back of the net for his second of the game off of some nice puck movement by Luke McCaw and Blake Forslund. McGill struck again late in the period but the Voyageurs countered on another power play with just fifteen seconds remaining in the game when Forslund found himself wide open in front of an empty net for his fourth of the season.

The Voyageurs power play went 2-3 in the game.

The Voyageurs are back in action at Countryside Arena tomorrow night as they take on the Concordia Stingers at 7:35pm.
