Thompson leads Tigers over Sea-Hawks 69-62

The Dalhousie Tigers (8-4) moved into a three-way tie for second place in the AUS with a 69-62 victory over the Memorial Sea-Hawks (5-7) on Sunday afternoon at the Dalplex. The two teams split a two-game series this weekend after the Sea-Hawks edged out the Tigers 66-65 the day before.

AUS leading scorer Courtney Thompson had a game-high 23 points on 9-13 shooting to lead the Tigers in the victory, while Kristy Moore added 14 points and Tessa Stammberger added nine points and six rebounds.

Tianna Brown came up just short of a double-double for the Sea-Hawks, registering eight points and adding ten rebounds. Kelia Pond had a team-high 11 points in the loss, while Sandra Amoah and Lindsay Taylor each added ten apiece.

The Tigers defense limited the Sea-Hawks to a 34.5% field goal percentage in the game, while they shot an impressive 45.5%.

The Tigers were red-hot to start the game, surging to a 12-0 run as they didn't allow the Sea-Hawks to score a single point in the first five minutes of the game. The Sea-Hawks regrouped in the latter half of the quarter, and they went on a 15-4 run to finish the quarter only down by just one point.

The Sea-Hawks took the lead early in the second quarter, but it was short lived as Kristy Moore and Tessa Stammberger hit back to back threes to put the Tigers back on top 24-21. The Tigers would lead by as many as 11 points in the quarter, but the Sea-Hawks back to trim the lead to five points as they headed into halftime.

The Tigers pulled away in the second quarter, and although the Sea-Hawks made it as close as seven points in the last minute, that's as close as they would get as the Tigers came away with the 69-62 victory.

The Tigers will be back on the court on Tuesday when they host the Acadia Axewomen, while the Sea-Hawks will take on the StFX X-Women at home on Saturday. Both games tip off at 6:00pm.
