EDMONTON - Substitute Terri Kutryk scored the game winning goal for the Alberta Pandas as they defeated the UFV Cascades 2-1 during their Canada West quarter-final match on Saturday at Foote Field.

Jessie Candlish scored Alberta's first goal. Kelti Biggs earned the win in goal.

With the win, Alberta moves onto the Canada West Final Four tournament, which will be held in Victoria next weekend.

Fraser Valley, meanwhile, sees their season come to an end after a 5-4-3 regular season.

Alberta will now travel to Victoria, likely as the No.2 seed in Canada West, and play for the Canada West championship, and one of two seeds to the CIS championship. Huskies-Spartans Stats

by Mark Janzen, TWU Sports Information

LANGLEY, BC – Trinity Western earned a spot in the Canada West Final Four for the 10th straight year, as the Spartans beat Saskatchewan 2-0 in their quarter-final match on Saturday at Rogers Field.

The Spartans Vanessa Kovacs tallied two first half goals – both of which came off set-piece crosses from Krista Gommeringer – and that proved to be all TWU would need to knock off the Huskies.

With the victory, the defending CIS champion Spartans, who finished fourth overall in the regular season, will play Final Four host Victoria in the Canada West semifinal Nov. 1 at 7:15 p.m. The winner of that game will advance to both the Canada West gold medal match and earn a berth in the CIS national championship.

The win keeps the Spartans late-season momentum rolling, as they have now won eight straight games and are unbeaten over their last 11 contests.

For the Huskies, it was the second year in a row they have lost in the Canada West quarter-final, after falling to Regina last year.

Spartans goalie Rachel Bedek made three saves to earn the clean sheet while Cara Santaga made four stops in a losing cause.

Dinos-Thunderbirds Stats

by Lee Dorner, T-Birds Sports Information Assistant

VANCOUVER – UBC rookie Jasmin Dhanda found the back of the net twice on Saturday, including the game-winner in the 83rd minute, as the Thunderbirds downed the Calgary Dinos 2-1 at David Sidoo Field to advance to the Canada West Final Four.

Dhanda received a pass from Nicole Sydor in stride on the right wing, and turned the corner on her defender to earn a clean break on goal. She carried the ball to just outside the six-yard box before popping it over Dinos goalkeeper Lauren Good to put UBC on top.

It was Dhanda's second goal of the game after the rookie forward tied for the T-Birds team lead with five during the regular season.

The Canada West Final Four is being hosted by the Victoria Vikes.

UBC and Alberta play on November 1 at 5 p.m. in Victoria, with the winner advancing to the Canada West gold medal game and taking one of the two available spots in the CIS championship.

The Dinos' year concludes in the Canada West quarter-final round after a 6-4-2 regular season and a sixth-place finish in the league standings.
