In AUS men's hockey action at the Halifax Forum, the UNB Varsity Reds defeated the Dalhousie Tigers in a game where the action hit a fever pitch in the third period. 120 were in attendance.

The first period saw UNB almost get on the board first when Kris Bennett (Brampton, ON) fired a shot towards the net that moved the mesh and exited very quickly, but was ruled no goal and play resumed. The Tigers got a good chance when Jonathan Cyr (Ottawa, ON) got the rebound off a Colton Heffley (Swift Current, SK) point shot, but was unable to put it in. The Varsity Reds almost opened the scoring again when the wraparound attempt of Matt Murphy (Woodstock, NB) was denied to keep things scoreless after 20 minutes.

In the second period, UNB got another chance to score the first goal when Murphy had another wraparound attempt that was stopped. The Varsity Reds finally opened the scoring when Peter Trainor (Fredericton, NB) tipped in a point shot through traffic at 9:03 on the powerplay to make it 1-0. UNB almost got another one when the point shot of Tyler Boland (St. John's, NL) was stopped, leading to Mark Simpson (Rothesay, NB) poking away at the puck, but being unable to put it in to keep it 1-0 after two periods

The third period began with Dalhousie quickly tying things up when Heffley got a juicy rebound and put it right in the net at 0:22 to make it 1-1. UNB answered right back when Trey Lewis (Aldouane, NB) shot a rebound in the crease into the net at 1:55 to make the score 2-1. UNB got another when Cam Brace (Etobicoke, ON) put a snapshot from the circle into the net at 8:01 to make it 3-1. The Tigers answered when Alex Pawelczyk (Sterling Heights, MI) scored a breakaway shorthanded goal at 12:40 to get it to within one at 3-2. Dalhousie evened things up when Aiden Jamieson (Lindsay, ON) tipped a point shot into the net at 17:56 to make the score 3-3. UNB ended the chance of overtime when Subway Player of the Game Matt Boudens (Pembroke, ON) stuffed a wraparound into the back of the net at 18:59 to give the Varsity Reds the victory.

The Varsity Reds outshot the Tigers 42-23. Rylan Parenteau (Saskatoon, SK) and Alex Dubeau (Mascouche, QC) combined to make 20 saves for the Varsity Reds, while Corbin Boes (Saskatoon, SK) stopped 38 shots for the Tigers.

Both teams are back on the ice this Friday at 7. The Varsity Reds are facing the UPEI Panthers in Fredericton, while the Tigers are playing the Saint Mary's Huskies at the Forum
