Sea-Hawks Win Their Third Straight

Sea-Hawks Win Their Third Straight

Memorial completed the two-game sweep of the Cape Breton Capers on Monday afternoon with a 103-86 victory on home court.  With the games being worth 4 points each in the standings, it pushes the Sea-Hawks into a tie for 4th place with Acadia.  Although the Sea-Hawks have played two more games than the Axemen.

Coming in to the second game of the weekend series, Memorial was riding high off the solid win they secured as they came out of the gates already on fire from the field. The Hawks put up a whopping 26 points while holding the Capers to a meagre 10. Nathan Barker came out this game ready to play after having an uncharacteristically quiet performance the evening before.

After the first two quarters, Memorial held the lead buoyed by their fantastic shooting from the field at 61%. The Capers looked to lock in for the second half, cut down on Memorial's transition buckets and wide-open looks, while boosting their own efficiency from the floor, which stood at a poor 24% from the field and 17% from deep.

Despite their best efforts, the Capers could not manage to keep Memorial from converting, as they continued to shoot well from the floor. The second half was more of the same; The Sea-Hawks having good offensive success, and the Capers struggling to create defensive stops. Four of Memorial's starters achieved double digit points, with Nathan Barker dropping a massive 35, on an incredible 15/16 from the field; Barker was also awarded Subway player-of-the-game commendations.

For CBU, Martin Campbell provided solid offense with 21 points; the starters also created most of the offense, but Paul Watson poured in a healthy 17-point game off the bench.

Memorial will look to carry this winning streak forward against a tough Dalhousie team that currently stands second in the AUS at 6-2. They face off on January 12th and 13th at Dalhousie. The games will be available on AUStv.ca, staring on Friday night.
