There is nothing like the ability to leave your audience happy and wanting more. That is what the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack women's volleyball team has left their fans with.
The WolfPack put the capper on the home portion of their 2014-15 Canada West regular season schedule by coming away with a 3-1 victory over the Mount Royal University Cougars. The scores at the Tournament Capital Centre in Kamloops, BC on Saturday were 25-14, 14-25, 25-22, 25-18.
Thompson Rivers, who hadn't won a match in the last two regular seasons, now has a record of 8-14. Mount Royal falls to 4-16.
"We came out today and did a better job of just playing," said WolfPack head coach Chad Grimm. "We came out strong and sort of disappeared in the second. Those are the types of lessons we have to learn as we move forward. We need need to have that same consistency the entire match. We played way better than yesterday (where they were swept 3-0 by the Cougars). "
The 'Pack were led by Iuliia Pakhomenko (third year, outside hitter, Donetsk, Ukraine) who had 18 kills in 44 chances with two assists, two service aces and 13 digs.
Katarina Legutky (second year, outside hitter, Calgary, AB) had 10 kills in 29 opportunities. She had a service ace and 13 digs.
Katie Woo (third year, setter, Surrey, BC) had 22 assists in two sets with three digs. She was named the TRU Bookstore/McDonald's Leader of the Pack Player of the Match.
Kara Twomey (third year, setter, Winnipeg, MB) had 19 assists, two service aces and three digs.
Grimm got a chance to play a lot of his players in different situations in this match. "Bri (Rauch, third year, outside hitter, Kimberley, BC) went back in the middle. Katie (Woo) came in midway through the match and did a good job setting for us. Kat (Legutky) started well and kind of went away a little bit and ended the match really well. Iuliia (Pokhemenko) had a much better match and returned to her old form, which was nice to see as well."
The Cougars were led by Fallon Middlemiss with nine kills in 32 chances with 10 digs.
Robyn Potolicki had six kills in 20 chances with 14 digs and two block assists while Jenna Smith had 19 assists.
The WolfPack have the bye next week before finishing the season in Saskatchewan on February 6-7. Mount Royal is at home to UBCO next week.
