The Sea-Hawks and the Varsity Reds were both heading into the game with renewed hopes. The Sea-Hawks managed to return to the path of victory and the Varsity Reds looked like a far cry from a winless team. Friday action saw the Varsity Reds take the Sea-Hawks to the limit in a 5-set thriller were the Sea-Hawks finally took the edge (22-25, 13-25, 25-20, 28-26, 9-15).

The Sea-Hawks improved to 7-6 on Saturday night as they took the second match of the weekend against the Varsity Reds with a score of 3-0 (25-22, 25-20, 25-22). 

The Varsity Reds were hopeful for the first win of the season as the first set started in a similar fashion as the last game had ended. No team seemed to have the grit to pull away with an early lead as the game was tied (10-10) at the midpoint of the first set. 

The score remained tied well into the first set with a score of 21-21. However, the Sea-Hawks were able to remain calm in the most crucial moments and ended up taking the set with a score of 25-22. 

The Sea-Hawks took an early lead at the beginning of the second set with a score of 7-2. The Varsity Reds were poised for another comeback as they inched closer with a score of 16-18. The Sea-Hawks never lost composure and regained their offensive prowess to take the set with a score of 25-20. 

The third set got underway with the Sea-Hawks working tirelessly to avoid a similar situation to that seen on Friday night. The Sea-Hawks looked good and quickly took away with a lead of 14-9.

The Varsity Reds were not to throw the white towel easily and fought back to lead the set with a score of 20-18. Despite the Varsity Reds' efforts, the Sea-Hawks had learned their lesson from last game and stayed strong on the offensive and defensive end to put away the game with a score of 25-22.

The Sea-Hawks had a strong offensive performance with first year player Emma Hackett recording 11 kills, while Sarah Dawe and Kier Fey pitched in with 8 and 6 kills respectively. Alison Poynter recorded 3 kills and had 26 assists. 

For the Varsity Reds, Kieren Hume had 9 kills, aided by Megan Kuciak with 7 kills.

The Sea-Hawks and Varsity Reds will be squaring off once more this weekend, with a game scheduled for Sunday at 1pm NST. Online coverage of the games is offered through AUStv.ca.
