Box Score Rachel Marriott (Waterloo) came ready to play in a Sunday afternoon contest at Western as the fourth year forward scored two goals and added an assist as Waterloo doubled up on the No. 8 Mustangs 4-2.
With the win Waterloo improved to 4-2-0 on the season, good for fourth spot in the OUA with 11 points. The loss dropped Western to 3-3-0.
Marriott opened the scoring just 6:23 into the opening frame on the power play with the defensive pair of
Michelle Tanel (Toronto) and
Dana Fairbarn (Maple) picking up the assists.
The Mustangs would anwer just six minutes later as Lyndsay Kirkham beat rookie netminder
Taylor Reimer (Morden) but Waterloo would regain the lead as
Carolyn Burke (Mississauga) netted an unassisted power play goal, Waterloo's second tally with the man advantage in the opening 20.
Western would answer back early in the second period as Alyssa Chiarello made it a 2-2 game.
Heading into the third period all square for the second straight game Waterloo was determined not to let another game get away. Marriott would pot her second of the game, the eventual game winner, before
Amy Barnard (Cambridge) iced the game with her third of the season, to give the Warriors the 4-2 victory.
Reimer was solid between the pipes, earning her second career win with 20 stops.
The Warriors are back to the icefields next weekend as they host two of the top OUA teams. The second place Laurentian Voyageurs take on Waterloo on Saturday before the first place Nipissing Lakers visit the black and gold on Sunday.
