CIS No. 6 Axewomen improve to 2-0 with 115-0 win

WOLFVILLE, N.S. - The CIS No. 6 ranked Acadia Axewomen remain undefeated after two weeks of competition in AUS women's rugby after handing the visiting Saint Mary's Huskies a 115-0 defeat. The victory for the Axewomen is the highest scoring win for the Axewomen in team history since 2006 and the second highest in the AUS. Last season StFX beat UPEI 116-0 in the last game of the season.

The Axewomen scored a total of 19 trys with second year centre and Subway Player of the Game Shannon White scoring a team high four trys. Fifth year senior Erin Beazley, who returned after taking last season off following graduation, was 10 for 19 in conversions.

The Axewomen were relentless in possessing the ball and White pointed out their focus is one game at a time with focus now set on the StFX X-Women who also is 2-0. "This was a better showing that last weekend and the girls came prepared. Now it is back to practice to focus on StFX"

The Axewomen lost in double overtime last season to StFX in the AUS Championship game after splitting the season in regular season games against the X-Women.

When asked what the team will work on this week in preparation for StFX, White pointed out a few things that she suspects the Axewomen will focus on in the coming days. "We'll have to work on our backline and we need to get the ball wide with the speed we have in Kelsey Brumm, Laura Klingenberg, Erin Beazley and the power coming from our centres in Rachel Chapman and Clarrisa MacDonald."

The Axewomen will face StFX this Saturday night at 7:00 pm following the 2:00 pm football game featuring StFX and the Axemen.
