No. 2 ranked Ridgebacks pick up their seventh straight victory

OSHAWA, Ont. – The No. 2 ranked UOIT women's soccer team swept the season series with the Toronto Varsity Blues as they earned a 2-0 shutout on Sunday afternoon, pushing their win streak to seven games.

With a 7-0-0 record, UOIT sits atop of the OUA eastern conference table, five points ahead of the Ottawa Gee-Gees (5-1-1). The Ridgebacks are one of five teams in the country without a loss or a tie, with Laval (4-0-0), MacEwan (4-0-0), Memorial (4-0-0) and Cape Breton (3-0-0) also having perfect starts.

Veterans Cassandra Sribny (Pickering, Ont.) and Katherine Koehler-Grassau (Greely, Ont.) were the goal scorers for UOIT, with both strikes coming in the second half.

For Sribny, it was her 29th career goal and fourth of the season as she calmly scored on a penalty kick in the 60th minute. She is tied with teammate Taijah Henderson (Ajax, Ont.) for fourth in the OUA in goals scored this season.

Just one minute later, Henderson made a nice cross to Koehler-Grassau who finished with a shot that found the back-left corner for her second goal of the season.

The Ridgebacks will have a tough test ahead of them as they have three games on the road beginning with a rematch of the OUA championship on Saturday, Sept. 23 against the Queen's Gaels (4-1-1) in Kingston.
