SHERBROOKE, Que. - A 23-point performance by Jaz Bains led the Queen's Gaels to an 81-66 win over the Bishop's Gaiters in non-conference basketball action at the Mitchell Gym in Lennoxville, Friday. The 5-11 guard was 9-for-20 from the field, and connected on a trio of three-pointers in 35 minutes as he led all scorers.

Bishop's (0-1) was led by Alex Boissé and Joany Castor-Thadal, who each scored 11 points. For Queen's (1-0), Tanner Graham had a double-double, with 12 points and 13 rebounds. Jesse Graham scored 11 points for the Gaels, while Quinton Grey and Harry Range each had 10.

Harvey Matou (Paris, France/Cegep de Thetford)'s nine rebounds led the Gaiters, and the teams collected 52 rebounds apiece.

The Gaiters opened up a quick 8-0 lead and forced Queen's into an early time out, but the Gaels recovered to take the lead later in the quarter, and led 21-14 after 10 minutes. They extended their lead to 46-33 at halftime. The Gaiters chipped away at the lead in the second half, and pulled to within four points as Andrew Howarth (Oakville, Ont./Thomas A. Blacklock H.S.) made it 66-62 with 7:40 to play, however the Gaels responded with a 15-4 run to close the game.

The Gaiters are back in action on Sunday afternoon, as they host the Ottawa Gee-Gees at the Mitchell Gym. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
