Saint Mary's wins 2-1 over MTA

(Sackville, NB) The Mount Allison Mounties kept pace with the Atlantic Conference's # 1 ranked Saint Mary's Huskies for 50 minutes before dropping a close 2-1 decision to the Halifax squad in Atlantic University Sport women's hockey action at Sackville's Tantramar Veterans Memorial Civic Centre Wednesday night.

Mounties' Head Coach, Warren Mason, despite the loss, said, "I am encouraged by the turnaround in the intensity of the Mounties as they kept close to the # 2 team in Canada".

The Huskies opened scoring at 10:33 of the first on a goal by Mary Worndl for a first period lead.

The teams battled through a scoreless second frame.

Period 3 was marked by an exchange of goals. Mount Allison's Kara Anthony (Toronto, ON) tied the game at 10:07. A scant 23 seconds later Siobhan Birch of SMU scored the game winner.

The tightness of play was evident in the game's shot count – Saint Mary's 32 – Mount Allison 30.

The win gives the Huskies sole possession of 1st place with a 7-0-1 record while the Mounties drop to 1-6-0 in 7th.

The Mounties' next outing sees the squad travel to Moncton on Saturday, 5 November for a 2pm encounter with the Aigles Bleues.
