X-Men lose close game to Panthers

CHARLOTTETOWN - The StFX X-Men (0-2) dropped their second consecutive game to start the AUS basketball regular season, a close 95-91 loss to the UPEI Panthers (2-0) Saturday afternoon that came down to the minute to decide.

The X-Men, who held a 50-46 halftime advantage, were led by 32 points from guard Julius Antoine (Woodbridge, ON), including an 8-for-12 effort from three-point range. He added three rebounds, one assist and one blocked shot for the visitors.

Junior forward Cameron Walker (Dallas, TX) scored 25 points, including 9-of-13 from the free-throw line, while adding nine rebounds and one assist.

Kevin Bercy collected a double-double - 17 points and 11 rebounds - while adding one assist and one steal.

Davonte Provo (East Preston, NS) chipped in nine assists for the X-Men.

Tyler Scott (Halifax, NS) paced the Panthers with a team-high 33 points, including five baskets from beyond the arc, while adding six rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocked shots.

With 28 points and 11 rebounds, Bradley States (Bathurst, NB) contributed a double-double for the home team. He also grabbed two steals and two assists.

Off the bench, Lorenzo Parker (New Minas, NS) hit double figures with 14 points, while adding three rebounds and two assists.

The Panthers shot 50 per cent (10-for-20) from three-point range.

The X-Men out-rebounded the Panthers 43-33 in the loss.

StFX will be back on the court Wednesday, Nov. 11, when they travel to Sydney to face the rival Cape Breton University Capers.

StFX will host the Acadia Axemen in their regular season home opener Friday, Nov. 13 at Oland Centre.

Both games will tip-off at 8 p.m.

The Panthers will return to action Sunday, Nov. 15, when they make the trip to Halifax to play the Saint Mary's Huskies, beginning at 4 p.m.
