Moncton, NB – The Moncton Aigles Bleus held on for a 3-2 victory over the StFX X-Men Friday night in AUS hockey action.

Mitchell Robillard's shorthanded goal at 14:39 of the second period held as the game winner as the Aigles Bleus improve to 2-0 early in the AUS season. The X-Men are winless at 0-2.

Thierry Comtois opened the scoring for the home team 6:18 into the game as Danick Emond and Luc Williams assisted.

StFX had several scoring chances early in the first period. The Aigles Bleus got into penalty trouble and Rob Slaney scored a power play goal for the X-Men while they were on a 5-on-3 advantage. Jagger Dirk and Michael Kirkpatrick had the helpers.

The X-Men then quickly replied with another power play marker 30 seconds later as Cole Grbavac beat Moncton netminder Adrien Lemay. Ted Stephens and Jarrad Struthers assisted as the X-Men held the 2-1 advantage after the first period of play.

StFX also held the edge in shots at 12-9.

The second period saw Allain Saulnier net the equalizer for the Aigles Bleus at 6:47, scoring from Mathieu Martin and Alex Emond.

The only other scoring in the middle frame was Robillard's unassisted shorthanded goal to give Moncton the 3-2 lead. Shots were 11-10 for Moncton in the second.

Despite outshooting the Aigles Bleus 14-12 in the third period, the X-Men were unable to find the back of the net and tie the game. They pulled goaltender Morgan Clark with 53 seconds left but to no avail.

Clark had 29 saves for the X-Men in the losing effort. Lemay turned aside 34 shots for Moncton for the win.

The X-Men will take to the ice Saturday evening as they travel to Fredericton to face the CIS No. 2 ranked UNB Varsity Reds. Game time is 7:00 pm.
