David Belanger (Sherbrooke, Que./Champlain-St. Lambert) had 19 points to lead the Bishop's Gaiters to a 64-58 win over the Laval Rouge et Or in RSEQ men's basketball action on Friday night in Quebec City. The veteran forward went 8-for-11 from the field as he led Bishop's to their first win of the league season.
The Gaiters (4-9, 1-4 RSEQ) trailed through most of the first half, and were down 30-25 at halftime. They took the lead on a three-pointer by
Nick Harvey (Saint-Bruno, Que. /Champlain-St. Lambert) with two minutes left in the third quarter, capping a 20-7 run by the Gaiters over six minutes. Laval tied the game twice early in the fourth quarter, but Bishop's never surrendered the lead.
Jona Bermillo (Montreal, Que./Vanier College) added 10 points for Bishop's, while
Abdul Kamane (Montreal, Que./Vanier College ) had eight points and a game-high 13 rebounds.
For Laval (6-11, 4-3 RSEQ), Nicolas Bégin led with 13 points, while Vladimir Thomas came off the bench to score 12 points. The Rouge et Or turned the ball over 25 times, leading to 28 Gaiter points.
The teams close out their home-and-home series on Saturday at the Mitchell Gym. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m.
