Hockey X-Women handle Tigers 7-1

Halifax, NS – The CIS ranked No. 10 X-Women hockey team picked up their 8th consecutive victory of the AUS season with a decisive 7-1 win over Dalhousie Saturday afternoon at the Halifax Civic Centre.

The X-Women were powered by a three-goal effort from forward Daley Oddy (Cranbrook, BC).  She wasted no time getting StFX on the board 1:31 into the game off a Jenna Downey (Stratford, ON) assist.

Courtney Sheedy evened the game scoring for the Tigers at 4:51 from Marita Alfieri and Elizabeth MacArthur.

Daley gave the X-Women back the lead with a power play goal at 8:50. Kara Power (New Glasgow, NS) and Jenna Downey assisted.

Freshman defense Emma (Lower Sackville, NS) scored for X before the first period was over. Her goal came at the 12:20 mark from Catherine Civitarese (Calgary, AB).

The first place X-Women outshot the Tigers 18-5 in the opening frame for the 3-1 advantage on the score board.

StFX padded their lead with four more goals in the second period as they continued their scoring attack, outshooting the Tigers 18-7.

Goals came from Sarah Bujold (Riverview, NB), Alex Normore (Bedford, NS), Oddy and Lisa Downey (Stratford, ON).

Bujold tallied at 4:11 from Jenna MacDonald (Osgoode, ON), while Normore scored on the power play at 7:14 from Power and Jenna Downey. Oddy scored her third goal of the day at 10:39 from Power and Jaelei Meyer (Carlyle, SK) and Lisa Downey rounded out the StFX goals with a power play marker at 15:51 from Nicole Halladay (Smith Falls, ON) and her sister Jenna Downey.

Jenna Downey finished with four assists on the afternoon while Power had three helpers.

Oddy earned Subway player of the game honors for her three-goal effort.

Pascale Daigle (Irishtown, NB) earned the win between the pipes for StFX with 18 saves.

Jeanne Morin (15 saves) and Mati Barrett (22 saves) split the time in the Tigers net. The X-Women outshot the home team by a 44-19 margin and were 3 for 6 on the power play. Dalhousie was 0 for 3.

The X-Women next see action on Sunday afternoon, Nov. 16th when they will host the second place Universite de Moncton Aigles Bleues at the StFX Keating Centre. Puck drop is 2:00 pm.
