MSOC | Voyageurs Drop Saturday Tilt To Varsity Blues, 2-0

The Voyageurs men's soccer team had another tough outing this season as they lost to the University of Toronto Varsity Blues in their latest contest by a score of 2-0.

Both teams were equally matched to start the game but as the match progressed, the Varsity Blues began to pull ahead in their style of play. Jae Jin Lee scored an early goal in the twentieth minute with an assist from Nicholas Osario that would later turn out to be the go ahead goal. The situation started to look up for the Voyageurs just five minutes later when some undisciplined play from the Blues' led one of their men to be a shown a red card and was sent off. Unfortunately though, the Voyageurs were unable to capitalize on this opportunity to equalize or go ahead. The Blues would then put a stamp on this match in the dying minutes of the first half when a pass back to the goalie from Laurentian was intercepted by Jae Jin Lee and would deposit it at the back of the net quite comfortably for his sixth goal of the season.

The second half saw a similar trend that was seen in the first but the Voyageurs did manage to apply some pressure and create a few scoring opportunities but they were thwarted away by the Blues defence. In the end, the Voyageurs dropped a challenging match against the Toronto Varsity Blues by a score of 2-0.

The Voyageurs captain, Evan Stronach had much to ponder about after the game as he evaluated his team's performance and what they can do better in the future by saying "It was a tough game. I think we have to start playing more as a team. The positive is that we are always a hard working team and we are going to take that into tomorrow."

The skipper also reiterated the fact that the playoffs are still an attainable goal as they are beginning to play better soccer. "Tomorrow is going to be a tough game but hopefully we can get a few more wins in the win column. It's one of our goals this season to finish with more wins than losses this year since we started off a little slow but it's looking up, we're starting to play better soccer I think and that's the plan right now."

The Voyageurs will look to right the ship on Sunday afternoon when they take on the Ryerson Rams at 2:15pm.
