On a night celebrating breast cancer awareness, the UPEI Panthers top the Mount Allison Mounties, Saturday night 4-1.
After snapping a six-game losing streak, the Panther put together back to back wins for the first time since October. Shelby Foran, opened the scoring for the Panthers at the 13:18 mark with the help from Gabrielle Gray. However, the Mounties quickly responded, Jessica Desautels scored a more than a minute late to even things out.
In the second, UPEI was the only team to find the back of the net, scoring twice. Madison Clarke potted her second goal of the year at the 6:31 mark to break up the tie, Leah Byrne, and Sophie Vandale chipped in with the assists. Near the end of the middle frame, Rachel Colle found the back of the net shorthanded to extend the Panther lead heading into the third.
In the third, the Panthers added to their lead with power play goal from Syndee Baker, her fourth of the season cushioned the Panthers lead. Defensively UPEI never allowed the Mounties to get back into the game from that point forward. Goaltender Megan Sullivan turned aside 17 of 18 shots she faced Saturday night to help solidify the victory for UPEI.
The Panthers will play their final game of the season on the road against the Dalhousie Tigers on February 10th.
