Rugby Axewomen improve to 3-1 with win over Huskies

Halifax, N.S. -  The Acadia Axewomen opened the match versus the host Saint Mary's Huskies by delivering the ball deep into Saint Mary's territory off the foot of centre Shannon White.

Acadia wasted no time turing the ball over, but were stifled several times near the try-line before scrum-half Gillian Bergsma dove over to open the scoring three minutes into play, and fly-hlaf Erin Beazley converted for the Awewomen who went up 7-0.

Acadia would not relent and Erin Beazley would soon score a try which she converted and both Gillian Bergsma and Michaela Haley would add two tries each in the first half.  Beazley would convert two of the final four tries of the first half and Acadia led at  the intermission 38-5 after allowing Huskies to score in the corner to close the first frame.

Acadia would hold Huskies off the second half score sheet and added six additional tries through Rachel Chapman, Veronique Russell, Lauren Humby, Makayla Albert, Barbara Bitchoka and Tamara Dondi.  Erin Beazley converted just two of sox in the final half with Acadia finishing the day with a 72-5.
"We had a really solid showing from many ladies who haven't seen as much time this season, and there were many impressive performances – it will be difficult selecting our side to travel to next weekend" reported Head Coach Matt Durant.
With two more regular season games including a rematch next weekend at StFX - Acadia's only loss last week to the X-Women, the Axewomen will prepare for the hosting of the AUS championship at Acadia on October 25 and 26.
