WOLFVILLE, N.S. – The Acadia Axewomen improved to 2-5 with a convincing 87-66 win over the visiting Dalhousie Tigers. Fourth year guard Paloma Anderson improved her points per game average to 24.3 with a 30 points performance against the Tigers.

Acadia took an early lead in the first quarter based on strong defensive play from seniors Katie Ross (Halifax, N.S.) and Allie Berry (Yarmouth, N.S.) who helped Axewomen reach a 15-point lead heading into the second period.

The Tigers were unable to close that gap as Dalhousie continued to trail behind the Axewomen throughout the second quarter.

Axewomen Chanel Smith (Halifax, NS) and Paloma Anderson (Phoenix, AZ), who currently sits second in the league in for total game points, were stand out contributors with 17 and 30 points each respectively.

Unfortunately, an injury to her face at the end of the third period put Smith out for the remainder of the game.

Subway Player of the Game for the Tigers, second year guard Sophie Gaube (Hubley, NS), led the Dalhousie with 26 points, while teammate Karina May added 11 points.

Acadia had their largest lead of 23 points at the 4:48 mark of the third quarter. The Axewomen capitalized on Dalhousie miscues by adding 32 points from Tiger turnovers.

Acadia continued to dominate the play into the final period, including a skillful three point shooting from Alyson Fulton (Merigomish, NS), and an additional 6 points from forward Kelsey Rice (Beaver Bank, NS), to further drive up the score.

Rice was named the Subway Player of the Game by posting 6-6 from the floor and 5-5 from the charity strip.

Ultimately the Axewomen's tight teamwork, including 25 assists and 11 steals, helped hand the Tigers their fourth loss of the season. The Axewomen improve to 2-5, while Dalhousie drop to 2-4 win one game remaining in the first half of the regular season.

Dalhousie will head to UNB this Saturday evening before the Holiday break. The Axewomen will return to the regular season action in January as they head to Antigonish to take on the winless StFX X-Women on Friday, January 6th.
