Gryphons fall to No.9 York Lions

The University of Guelph women's volleyball team fell to the No. 9 ranked York Lions this afternoon 3-0 at York. Set scores were 14-25, 13-25 and 13-25.

The loss drops the Gryphons to 2-6 on the season while the Lions maintain their perfect 7-0 record.

York jumped ahead early in the first set in cruising to a 25-14 win.

Set two was closer for a longer period of time, but the Gryphons could not stop the Lions late in the set, losing 25-13.

The third set was nearly a carbon copy of set two, with York opening up a big lead midway through and coasting to a 25-13 win.

"At the moment, as a group and as individuals, we are not playing with any confidence in our abilities and things are snowballing on us early in sets," said Coach Paul Funk, "We have two more matches next weekend before the exam break to try to get back to a better mental place."

Julie Gordon (Barrie, ON) led the Gryphons on offense with seven points (seven kills).

Guelph will end the first half of their schedule next weekend at home against Toronto on Friday, November 23 at 6 p.m. and against Ryerson on Saturday, November 24 at 6 p.m.
