VICTORIA - The Victoria Vikes kept it close for 22 minutes before the CIS #2-ranked UBC Thunderbirds took over en route to a 103-75 win.

With the win, UBC clinches the Canada West regular season title, improving to 21-2 and winning their 17th straight game. UVic falls to 15-8 and needs to win on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. to finish in fourth spot and host the best-of-three Canada West quarter-final series with the Alberta Golden Bears, Feb. 25-27.

Alex Murphy set a Canada West record, playing in his 110th consecutive game for UBC. He scored a game-high 26 points.

Jeff Cullen led the Vikes with 19 points, including five three-pointers. Ryan MacKinnon added 16 points, six rebounds and six assists along with two steals in the loss.

CALGARY – The two teams combined for 119 second-half points as the CIS #3-ranked Saskatchewan Huskies out-gunned the Calgary Dinos 107-92 Friday night in the Jack Simpson Gym, putting Calgary’s playoff chances on extremely thin ice.

With the victory, the Huskies improve to 19-4 on the season with only Saturday’s finale remaining. Calgary, meanwhile, falls to 8-15 and is in a must-win situation Saturday night if they are to qualify for the post-season for a ninth straight year.

Conference scoring leader Jamelle Barrett went off in the second half, recording 20 of his game-high 33 points to finish the night 12 of 22 from the field, adding 11 assists. Nolan Brudehl added 20 points and Rejean Chabot 19.

Offensively, the Dinos' Keenan Milburn had a season-high 26 points. Tyler Fidler added 17 points, while Andrew McGuinness put back 13.

The two teams wrap up the regular season Saturday night with the rematch, with tip-off set for 8 p.m. MT in the Jack Simpson Gym.

REGINA – Regina got out to a quick start and held off the Manitoba Bisons down the stretch to take a 108-94 win on Friday night in a Canada West game at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.
 
Marek Downarowicz led the Cougars (13-10) with 21 points and added a game-high 12 rebounds to register his third double-double of the season. Paul Gareau had 20 points and eight rebounds, while Jared Janotta scored a career-high 18 points.
 
Maxwell caught fire late in the game for Manitoba, going 7-for-8 from three-point land in the second half alone. The fifth-year forward hit eight three-pointers in total and added two two-point field goals to lead all players with 28 points.
 
Jonar Huertas scored 20 points for Manitoba, while Eric Garcia and Keith Omoerah both had 14. The Bisons, which are embroiled in a three-team battle for the final two Canada West post-season berths, drop to 9-14 with the loss.
 
The teams will meet on Saturday, 8:00 p.m. at the CKHS.

ABBOTSFORD, BC - The Fraser Valley Cascades defeated the Brandon Bobcats 75-68 to improve their record to 9-14.  With the victory UFV moves back into eighth place and with a victory on Saturday against Brandon the Cascades could lock up a Canada West post-season berth.

The Cascades were led by Joel Friesen, with a game-high 18 points.  James Elliott chipped in with 17 points.  Gray led UFV with eight boards. Isiah James led all Bobcats in scoring, with 15, while O'Brian Wallace scored 13.

Wesmen-Pronghorns Stats

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Senior Randy Davis hit a three-point shot with 12 seconds remaining to force overtime, then Davis and fellow senior Danhue Lawrence traded free throws in the dying seconds to seal a hard fought 111-106 win over the visiting Winnipeg Wesmen.

With the win the Horns improve to 7-16, while the Wesmen, which had won three of their previous four games, falls to 5-18.

Lawrence led the Horns with 32 points and Davis finished with 29. The Wesmen’s lone senior, Nick Lother, led all scorers with 45 points, including a Canada West-record 28 trips to the free-throw line where he made a conference-record 22, while Lynden Drayton Barrow chipped in with 23 points for the Wesmen.

The Horns and Wesmen wrap up the 2010-11 Canada West regular season on Saturday, 8:00 p.m. at the 1st Choice Savings Centre.
