Axewomen soccer team settle for tie versus Tigers

The Acadia Axewomen soccer team took on the Dalhousie Tigers this past Sunday in Halifax at Wickwire Field. In what was surely a highly anticipated matchup for these rivals as well as their fans, the players did not disappoint. The game started evenly with Tigers gaining control of the latter part of the first half including some chances heading into halftime. The Axewomen defended well and sophomore goalkeeper Emma Connell in her second AUS start commanded her box with confidence.

In the second half, however, the Axewomen rebounded with a stronger effort while both teams created close call after close call. Acadia's star goal scorer and current athlete of the week, #17 Meghan Earle worked hard to create the game's best attempt on net; a long ground shot across the net that the Tiger goalkeeper Katherine Morgan was just able to tip around the post for a corner. As the second half came to a close the Axewomen had some final chances, yet the score remained 0-0 leaving tensions high for when the two rivals will meet again on Raymond Field on October 19th.

Coach Batra added, "I think both teams always look forward to this matchup and it was a tight game with a significant midfield battle where both teams did create chances to score.  There were a lot of positives to take from the game but equally important the game revealed things to work on going forward so it was a great matchup to have early in the season."
