KINGSTON, Ont. - A couple of second half goals were the difference as the Queen's Gaels knocked off the Ryerson Rams 2-0 in OUA women's regular season soccer action Saturday afternoon. The victory boosts the Gaels' record to 5-2 and moves them into fourth in the OUA East division with 15 points. The Rams fall to 2-5-1 and into eighth place.
BOXSCORE
Following an opening half dominated by the Gaels, Matija Skoko's first goal of the season broke the deadlock in the 49th minute. Queen's continued their relentless attack and forced Rams' goalkeeper Brittney Clendenan (Ottawa, ON) to make a number of difficult saves.
There wasn't much she could do about Tara Bartram in the 76th minute though. The fourth year forward cut in from the right side of the box and placed a perfect shot past Clendenan and into the far side of the net. That effort doubled the Gaels' lead and would be all the offence they needed to secure three points.
Clendenan finished with six saves on eight shots in the losing effort while Madison Tyrell only needed to make three saves in the Queen's net. In total, the Gaels fired 29 shots at the Rams' net while Ryerson mustered six.
The Rams' offensive struggles continue to haunt them. They've now gone four straight games without finding the back of the net and only picked up one of a possible 12 points during that stretch (a 0-0 draw with the Varsity Blues on September 18th). The Rams' last tally came in a 4-1 victory over Trent nearly three weeks ago.
Ryerson will look to rebound tomorrow afternoon when they take on the RMC Paladins (0-6) in the second chapter of their Kingston road trip. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:15 p.m.
