X-Women nip Aigles Bleues in overtime

Antigonish, NS - The CIS #10 ranked StFX X-Women (9-1) skated to a 2-1 overtime win over the Universite de Moncton Aigles Bleues (7-2-1) in AUS hockey action Sunday afternoon.

Fifth-year senior defender Jenna Downey (Stratford, ON) scored the game-winner at 5:15 of the extra session.

Daley Oddy (Cranbrook, BC) collected the assist on the goal.

The home crowd at the Keating Centre saw the X-Women notch their ninth consecutive regular season victory. 

In a fast-paced opening period, the X-Women took a 1-0 lead on a power play goal from captain Taylor Dale (Oromocto, NB). Her blast from just inside the blue line cleanly beat Moncton goaltender Emilie Bouchard (Casselman, ON). Schyler Campbell (Galloway, NB) notched the lone assist on the marker.

StFX outshot Moncton 10-5 in the first 20 minutes.

At 4:05 of the second period, Moncton tied the game on a goal from Marie-Pier Arsenault (Bonaventure, QC), who re-directed a centering pass from Natacha Bergeron (Berthierville, QC) behind Sojung Shin (Seoul, Korea).

Shots favored the visiting Aigles Bleues 10-7 in the middle frame.

The teams played to a scoreless third period, forcing the overtime period to break to 1-1 tie after regulation. Each team had one prior overtime victory to thier credit this season.

Final shots in the game were 30-23 in favor of StFX.

The three stars of the game were Downey, Shin and Bouchard. Shin collected 22 saves in the StFX net while Bouchard had 28.

With the win the X-Women (18 points) widen their lead atop the AUS conference over the Aigles Bleues (15 points).

Moncton returns to action Friday, Nov. 21 when they host the St. Thomas Tommies.

The X-Women are back on the ice Saturday, Nov. 22 when they host the UPEI Panthers. Puck drop is set for 2 p.m. at the Keating Centre.
