(ANTIGONISH, N.S.) - The StFX X-Women skated to a 2-0 win over the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues in Game 1 of the 2015 Subway AUS women's hockey championship Monday night.

In front of more than 200 fans at the Keating Centre, Schyler Campbell (Galloway, N.B.) opened the scoring in the best-of-three series with a backhander at the 3:10 mark of the first period. Her shot floated over the right shoulder of Gabrielle Forget (Joliette, Que.) and into the top corner. Kara Power (New Glasgow, N.S.) notched the lone assist on the tally.

"We played well defensively and got off to a good start," Campbell, the Subway player of the game, said after the win.

"We had every line working hard and we have to continue that [in Game 2]."

In the second period, the X-Women doubled their lead when the Downey sisters - Jenna and Lisa (Stratford, Ont.) - combined to make it 2-0.

"The goal means so much," Lisa Downey said in the second intermission.

She deftly re-directed a point blast from her older sister behind Forget. X-Women captain Taylor Dale (Oromocto, N.B.) collected the other assist.

The teams played to a scoreless third period.

StFX outshot Moncton 24-23, with Sojung Shin (Seoul, Korea) making 23 saves for the shutout, while Forget steered aside 22 shots in the loss.

The three stars of the game were Campbell, Jenna Downey and Dale of the X-Women.

"We have to continue to execute and work hard," Campbell said when asked about Game 2.

The series shifts to Moncton for Game 2 on Wednesday, March 4. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m.
