WBB | Gee-Gees Run Away From Voyageurs

WBB | Gee-Gees Run Away From Voyageurs

In their first away game of the new year, the Laurentian Voyageurs women's basketball team was defeated by the Ottawa Gee-Gees with a final score of 66-51.

The first quarter was hopeful for the Vees as they got off to a powerful start, dominating the Gee-Gees with a strong offense. Laurentian was able to score 6 points before the Gee-Gees moved into action to close the gap. The Vees finished the period optimistically, as they led Ottawa 14-10.

The second quarter was action-packed as the Voyageurs maintained their lead for most of the period, until Ottawa began stepping up their offense and catching up to Laurentian. By the end of the first half, the Gee-Gees led the Voyageurs by a single point with a score of 28-27.

The Voyageurs returned in the second half hoping to regain their early lead, but were unable to match the power of the Gee-Gee's offense and tight defense. As the quarter progressed, Ottawa was able to widen the gap, ending with a score of 38-44.

As the pressure mounted, the women headed into a nail-biting final period. The pressure resting on the Vees proved too much as they were not able to catch up to the Gee-Gees or keep them from widening their lead. In a disappointing turn of events, the Ottawa Gee-Gees scored the win with a final tally of 66-51.

Leading the Vees in scoring was Emily Tinnes with 14 points and Kayla Deschatelets with 12 points.

The Voyageurs will be back in action on Saturday night as they face off against Carleton at the Ravens Nest at 6pm. You can keep up with all things Voyageurs at www.luvoyageurs.com or by following @LUVoyageurs on Twitter.
