Moncton wins 3-1 over Acadia

(Halifax, N.S.) – It took four sets for the Moncton Aigles Bleues to get their second win of the day, defeating the Acadia Axewomen 3-1 in AUS women's volleyball action at Dalplex.

In the first set, Moncton got out to an early lead and managed to keep it, despite Acadia's best efforts to close the gap. The Aigles Bleues closed it out 25-20.

Acadia rebounded to take the second set 25-21 in a see-saw affair. Acadia led early on and despite trading points back and forth and a late surge by Moncton, they held on to tie the match at one set apiece.

Their well-matched play continued in the third set as Acadia and Moncton traded points until Moncton went on an eight-point run on the serving of Emilie Landry (McLeod Hill, NB) to get to lead 16-12 at the technical time out. They went on to take the set 25-21.

Both teams continued to duke it out, trading points back and forth but it was Moncton who closed out the fourth and final set 26-24.

Christelle Bertin (Beresford, NB) was the top scorer for the Aigles Bleues, getting 17 points with 14 kills and 16 digs.

Lauryn Renzella (Stouffville, ON) led the way for the Axewomen with 16 kills, six digs and 16.5 points.

Moncton will face Dalhousie Saturday afternoon at Dalplex while Acadia takes on UNB at the Homburg Centre. Both matches are at 1pm.
