Axemen’s last minute goal ties game at 2 vs Tigers

WOLFVILL, N.S. - Zach Mbolekwa's two goal performance wasn't enough to give the visiting Dalhousie Tigers their fourth win of the season, settling for a 2-2 tie against the host Acadia Axemen.

First year Acadia striker Travis Fenning (Ottawa, Ont.) netted the first goal six minutes into the opening half to give Acadia an early 1-0 lead. The Axemen would hold onto the lead into the halftime. Mbolekwa tied the game at one after eight minutes of play - his first of two goals. Mbolekwa added his second goal of the night at the 63 minute mark to give the Tigers a 2-1 lead.

Senior midfielder Cochrane Noseworthy Smith (Wolfville, N.S.) scored the game tying goal with just over six minutes remaining in the game with the ball bouncing off the cross bar and dropping in behind the goal line.

The Axemen outshot the Tigers 16-9 in two halves of play and edged Dalhousie 5-4 with shots on goal. Acadia dressed only 17 players tonight, many of whom were first year players including keeper Dominik D'Antuono. Injuries are plaguing the Axemen since their 0-0 tie against league leading Cape Breton.

The Axemen will travel to StFX on Sunday with a short bench to take on the 1-2-2 X-Men, while Dalhousie will host the 3-2-1 fourth place UPEI Panthers.
