Gryphons split two game, weekend series with a 2-0 loss to the Lancers

Box Score
The Gryphon women's hockey team suffered a tough, 2-0 loss to the Lancers this afternoon (Nov. 11) at the Gryphon Centre.

The loss drops the Gryphons to 7-3-2 and advances the Lancers to 8-4-0 on the season.

A physical, fast-paced affair played out at the Gryphon Centre this afternoon, with both teams looking to lock up their second win of the weekend. The Lancers got the jump on the Gryphons, scoring early in the first period when Alyssa Baldin (Mississauga, ON) carried a puck fed to her by Lindsay Hoogstraten (St.George, ON) past the Gryphon defense and into the net, to put the Lancers up 1-0 at 5:40.

A tight Lancer defense spoiled Guelph's offensive attack, resulting in many lost scoring chances for the Gryphons in the second period. Despite the fact that the majority of the period was played out in the Lancer zone, the Gryphons struggled to execute and were plagued with misfired shots.

The Gryphons began to lose their legs in the third period, allowing the Lancers to take control of the game. At 10:52, Candice Chevalier (Essex, ON) caught Brooke Siddall (Windsor, ON) off guard and recorded an unassisted goal for the Lancers, to advance the score to 2-0. The Gryphons continued to battle hard for the rest of the period, but could not get past Windsor netminder, Karlyle Robinson (St.Catharines, ON) before the buzzer rang to end the game.

Siddall faced 19 shots this afternoon for the Gryphons, while Robinson faced 21. Guelph went 0/3 on the powerplay while their opponents went 0/5.

The Gryphons are next in action Thursday, November 15 when they host the Ryerson Rams. The puck drops at 7:30 p.m.
