(Halifax, NS) The Dalhousie Tigers were able to jump out to a 10 point lead in the first quarter against the Memrial Sea-Hawks and never looked back taking the contest 73-60 on Friday night at the Dalplex. 

Ritchie Kanza Mata started his first game of the season, coming off an injury but showed no ill effects scoring a bucket and recording an assist in the Tigers opening three possessions.

Jared Reid led the Tigers on a 9-2 run halfway through the first quarter knocking down two triples.

The Tigers were scoring all over the court in the first quarter, propelling them to a 28-18 lead after one.

The scoring frenzy didn't continue into the second as neither side could do much. Outside of Matt McVeigh who came off the bench for the Tigers and hit two threes Dalhousie's offensive was stagnant.

Memorial had struggles of their own only recording six points in the frame.

At the half the Tigers held a 40-24 lead. Kashrell Lawrence was a presence in the paint almost recording a double-double in 2 quarters with 10 points and 7 rebounds.

The Sea-Hawks came out in the third quarter looking strong with an 8-4 run to kick things off. With Sven Stammberger on the bench for the majority of the third quarter the Sea-Hawks managed to cut the Tigers lead down to six points.

After the small lapse Dalhousie took control of the game restoring the lead to 14 points.

Once again it looked like the Sea-Hawks could crawl back in the fourth quarter but Stammberger hit back-to-back three ending any hope of a comeback. The Tigers cruised to a 73-60 victory and a 3-0 start to the season.

Lawrence continued to be an unstoppable force in the paint finishing the game with 18 points and 15 rebounds including some huge defensive plays throughout the game.

Memorial falls to 2-1 with the loss on Friday night but will have a chance to redeem themselves on Saturday afternoon as they line up against the Tigers in the second half of the two game series.
