WHKY | Vees Grab a Point, Lose 6-5 in OT to Ridgebacks

On Sunday afternoon, the Laurentian Voyageurs women's hockey team lost another thrilling game in overtime to the UoIT Ridgebacks with a score of 6-5.

Laurentian opened the scoring on the powerplay, when Kennedy Lanktree finished off a perfect passing play orchestrated by Sara Haval and Marie-Pierre Pelissou.
The Ridgebacks would answer just under three minutes later, when Kassidy Nauboris was the recipient of a fortunate bounce and slid the puck between the legs of Danielle Toland.
At 9:49, the Voyageurs regained their lead, this time off the stick of Regan Toltesi for her first career OUA goal.
Before the end of the period, however, Nabouris would tie up the game for the Ridgebacks once again, this time at 16:43 on the powerplay.
It would be the Ridgebacks who jumped out to the early lead in the second period, when Shanelle Doucette scored just 1:29 into the frame.
The Vees would even the score again at 10:04 when the hard work of Jessica Staats set Taylor Philip up for a one-timer that beat Ridgeback goalie Briar Hughes.
The Ridgebacks would again strike in the final few minutes of the period, this time giving them the advantage heading in to the intermission. Nicole Augello beat Toland at 16:29 to give the Ridgebacks a 4-3 lead.
The back and forth action picked up right where it left off in the third, when Sam Morell picked the top corner against Hughest, tying the game at four a piece.
The Ridgebacks would again answer, giving them a 5-4 lead. In the final minute, however, and with the goalie pulled, Taylor Weber beat Hughes over the glove from a bad angle to tie the game at 19:21 of the third period.
UoIT would put the game away in overtime on the power play when Nabouris completed the hat-trick to win the game for the Ridgebacks.
The Voyageurs are on the road next weekend as they travel to Windsor and Western to try and get back into the win column.
