The University of Regina's women's hockey team skated to a 3-1 victory over the Lethbridge Pronghorns on Friday night in a Canada West game at The Co-operators Centre.

Brooklyn Moskowy, Paige Wheeler, and Rianne Wight all scored for the Cougars, while rookie Jennifer Schmidt stopped 20 of 21 shots between the pipes in the victory. Shelby Ballendine scored Lethbridge's lone goal as the Pronghorns – who came into the game tied for the Canada West lead with 14 points – fall to 7-4-0 on the season.

After a scoreless first period, the teams traded power play goals in the second. Rookie forward Brooklyn Moskowy struck early in the period to open the scoring for Regina, but Ballendine's fifth of the season tied up the game at a goal apiece just past the midway point of the middle frame.

Wheeler scored what would turn out to be the game-winning goal less than four minutes after Ballendine's marker, deflecting a Kendra Finch shot past Lethbridge goalie Crystal Patterson to score her team-leading fourth goal of the campaign. Wight added an insurance goal in the third.

“We bounced back well after a rough couple of games last weekend,” Cougars head coach Sarah Hodges said. “I thought we controlled the play well tonight and our team was full value for the win tonight.”

Just five power plays were handed out during the contest, with Lethbridge ending up 1-for-3 with the man advantage and Regina ending up 1-for-2.

Moskowy and Wheeler both added assists on each other's goal to end up with two-point nights for the Cougars, who improve their Canada West record to 4-5-0 with the victory.

The two teams will meet again on Saturday night at The Co-operators Centre.
