Cougars, Dinos meet in battle of undefeated teams

11/18/2011 10:32:00 AM

It's a battle of undefeated teams this weekend as the No. 1-ranked Regina Cougars (3-0) host the Calgary Dinos (4-0) on Friday and Saturday at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.

The Cougars are coming off a West Coast road swing which saw them score a 74-65 win over Victoria last Friday and follow that up with a 77-66 win over then-No. 5 UBC on Saturday. Friday's win over the Vikes saw Carly Graham catch fire from the perimeter, as the fifth-year guard joined Bree Burgess and Gabrielle Gheyssen as the only Cougars ever to hit six three-pointers in a Canada West game.

Purdue transfer Michelle Clark continues to leads the team and ranks third in the conference with an average of 17.7 points per game, while Joanna Zalesiak (13.7 ppg), Danielle Schmidt (10.3), and Graham (10) also average in double figures.

Calgary's four consecutive wins to open the Canada West schedule include a pair of road blowouts over Brandon and convincing home victories over Thompson Rivers and UBC Okanagan. Tamara Jarrett leads the Dinos with an average of 13.5 points per game, while Megan Lang is 11-for-16 (68.9%) from three-point range this season.

Webcasts for both games this weekend will be available at www.canadawest.tv.

The Cougars finish off the first half of their Canada West schedule on the road next weekend. They'll play UBC Okanagan (0-2) for the first time in history on Friday night and meet Thompson Rivers (2-2) on Saturday.

NOTES: Entering the weekend, the Cougars have defeated the Dinos in five consecutive Canada West games and hold a 15-6 advantage all-time in conference games against Calgary.
