Cougars fall 5-1 to No. 5-ranked Manitoba

Box Score Game Summary

The University of Regina's women's hockey team lost 5-1 to the No. 5 Manitoba Bisons in a Canada West game at The Co-Operators Centre on Friday night.

The win improves Manitoba's record to 4-3-1, while the No. 10-ranked Cougars fall to 4-2-1.

Nellie Minshull, Jordyn Hrehirchuk, Addie Miles, Amy Coates, and Kayla Duna all scored for the Bisons, while Kendra Finch replied for the Cougars. Tara Lacquette made 25 saves between the pipes for Manitoba, while Lisa Urban stopped 24 shots for the Cougars.

Manitoba was 3-for-7 on the power play, while the Cougars were scoreless on their six opportunities with the man advantage.

Regina got a quick lead when Finch scored a goal within the first five minutes of the first period. However, Manitoba came back to tie it at the end of the period with a power play goal by Minshull.

The Bisons took the lead five minutes into the second period on another power play goal by Hrehirchuk. Miles potted another with 7:30 left in the period, and the Bisons held the Cougars off the scoresheet in the middle frame.

The Cougars had an early 5-on-3 power play in the third, but were unable to capitalize on the opportunity. Coates iced the game with a power play goal at 16:31, and Duna added an insurance goal just 13 seconds later.

Minshull and Tammy Brade both had a pair of assists for the Bisons.

The two teams will play again on Saturday afternoon at The Co-Operators Centre. Game time is scheduled for 3 p.m.
