WHKY | Voyageurs Regroup for 5-0 Win at Laurier

On Sunday night, the Laurentian women's hockey team avenged Saturday afternoon loss with a 5-0 win against the Laurier Golden Hawks.

The Voyageurs brought the game to Laurier right off the get-go, as Sam Morell scored in the first five minutes of the first period to give the Vees the 1-0 lead. Morell's goal, assisted by Elissa Bertuzzi, would be the only goal of the period, however, the Voyageurs outshot Laurier 12-7 and Laura Deller stopped every shot she faced.

Morell was right back at it again at 1:07 of the second period as she gave the Voyageurs a 2-0 lead off an assist from Sara Habal.

Then, just a few minutes later at 4:21, Kennedy Lanktree scored her first career OUA goal on a play set up by Maggie Brennan and Morgan McCann.

The third period was almost the same as the second, as the Voyageurs would score twice more. First, Emma Leger scored to increase the lead to 4-0 off a play set up by Annie Sheridan.

Then, just two minutes later, Ellery Veerman scored her fifth goal of the season. The assists on Veerman's goal went to Taylor Philip and Jessica Staats.

Laura Deller earned the shutout in net for the Voyageurs, stopping all 15 shots she faced. With the Voyageurs fifth win in six games, they now sit in third place in the standings.

Head coach Stacey Colarossi was pleased with her team's effort on Sunday night, as she felt the ladies really regrouped well after a loss, "it was a really solid team effort tonight. We set the tempo early and didn't look back. We made the necessary adjustments that needed to be made and came out with a victory."

The Voyageurs are back in action next weekend at Countryside Arena as they host the Nipissing Lakers, game time set for 3:50pm.
