Box Score To say the women's hockey team has the UOIT Ridgebacks number would be a massive understatement as the Warriors topped UOIT for the 11
th straight time on Sunday afternoon at the CIF Arena.
What is even more impressive is it was the 8
th straight win for goaltender
Rebecca Bouwhuis (Orillia) as she moved to 8-0 in her career against the Ridgebacks. Bouwhuis stopped 29 of 30 shots for her third win of the season. At the other end, Tori Campbell was just as busy allowing three goals on 35 shots.
The win was Waterloo's third at home on the young season and overall the black and gold improved to 4-3-1 good for sixth overall in the OUA while UOIT dropped to 2-5-1.
Alyssa Gee (Ajax) opened the scoring for Waterloo at 5:11 of the first on a nice backhand shot.
Paula LaGamba (Toronto) and
Kaitlyn McDonell (Kincardine) were given the helpers on the goal.
Waterloo maintained their 1-0 lead until the Ridgebacks found the equalizer off the stick of Nicole LoPresti at 7:57 of the second period.
The game would tighten up as both teams did not want to make the next mistake but Waterloo would find two quick strikes, first
Maryn Caragata (Etobicoke) at 5:45 of the third and just two minutes later,
Rachel Marriott (Waterloo) would provide the insurance marker to put Waterloo up 3-1. Bouwhuis and the Waterloo defence would stand tall the rest of the way to pick up their fourth win of the season.
Waterloo will now enjoy a week and a half off before returning to action with three straight road games. Their first goes in Toronto when they take on the Ryerson Rams on Friday, November 13 at 7:30pm.
