MHKY | Redmen Too Much for Voyageurs
On Friday night, the Voyageurs men's hockey team lost 6-3 as they traveled to take on the powerful McGill Redmen.
McGill opened the game with a three goal first period, putting the Vees behind early.
Jerome Verrier started things off for McGill as he buried a shorthanded goal at 9:53 of the first period.
McGill followed up Verrier's goal with another at 14:33 as Samuel Tremblay found a way to beat Gunner Rivers in net for the Vees.
The Redmen quickly added a third by way of Dominic Talbot-Tassi just under a minute later at 15:08, sending both teams to the dressing room for the first intermission, with the Vees trailing by three.
The Voyageurs responded in the second period as they had a three-goal twenty minute period themselves.
Danny Lepage kicked things off for the Voyageurs on a play set up by Blake Forslund at 1:42 of the second period.
The Voyageurs further cut into the Redmen lead at 7:58, as Russell Nowry brought the Voyageurs within one goal, set up yet again by Blake Forslund, bringing the score to 3-2.
McGill restored their two-goal lead on the powerplay at 16:08 as Guillaume Gauthier beat Rivers, giving McGill a 4-2 lead.
The Voyageurs were eager to even the score before the period ended as Blake Forslund capped off a fantastic period with a shorthanded goal of his own at 19:44. Brent Pedersen and Tyler Cooper assisted on Forslund's goal which brought the Vees within one at the end of 40 minutes.
It was all McGill in the third, however, as they responded to the Voyageurs second period push with another two goals.
First, Gauthier scored his second of the game at 3:30 to give the Redmen a 5-3 lead. And then Christope Lalonde all but sealed the deal with a powerplay goal at 14:36, evening out the score at 6-3.
The Voyageurs were unable to claw back into the game and the buzzer eventually signaled the end of the game, with McGill earning a 6-3 win. The Voyageurs will play their final game of 2017 as they travel to Concordia tomorrow to take on the Stingers.
